Title: Thinking Identity with -and beyond- Paul Ricoeur
Description: Paul Ricoeur is one of the most influential philosophers of the 20th Century whose oeuvre extends to the first decade of the present century. In his writings he elaborated a theory concerning the formation of individual and collective identities that moves away from essentialist interpretations and places due emphasis on the relational, social, discursive and dynamic characteristics of identities. I aim to outline the fundamental aspects of his approach and to use it for the assessment of the very notion of hybridity.
